19 June 2025 Lunchtime concerts offer a wonderful range of hour-long performances by some of the world's leading artists. Join us in the Holywell Music Room and enjoy treats including Brahms's Die Schöne Magelone from Dietrich Henschel; Helen Charlston and the Consone Quartet; a programme of cabaret and cabaret-inspired songs from the winner of this year's RPS Singer Award Claire Booth; and the legendary Sir John Tomlinson making his Oxford Song debut in a semi-staged performance of John Casken's The Shackled King.

Joanna Harries & Sholto Kynoch, 10 October | Holywell Music Room
A love letter to all things Nordic, devised by Joanna Harries. It is both song recital and historical travel guide, weaving together music and text that follows in the footsteps of intrepid women journeying in the 19th-century in the then little-known 'wild north'. The songs are a treasure trove, drawn from the golden age of Scandinavian song.

Neil Balfour & Sid Ramchander 15 October | Holywell Music Room
After discovering a photo of his Scottish grandfather during World War One, in military uniform and standing alongside an Indian soldier, Scottish-Indian baritone Neil Balfour dug deeper and uncovered letters telling stories of both great bravery and great injustice. He was inspired to commission Cheryl Frances-Hoad to write a new song cycle 'Untold Lives', setting some of the texts from these letters...

Martha Guth & Erika Switzer 20 October | Holywell Music Room
The programme from this renowned duo sets a selection of Schubert songs alongside contemporary works including the recently commissioned Love, Loss, and Exile by Juhi Bansal. The overarching theme of the concert features stories of isolation and separation, from Homer's Penelope to Amaker's poem commemorating the Tomb of the Unknown Soldier.

'A master of the instrument' is how The New York Times described the Argentinian bandoneon virtuoso Victor Villena. He introduces this special instrument, described as 'the soul of tango', as part of an electrifying set of tango music, also joined for selected songs by singers who have performed earlier in the day.

As Halloween draws near, enter the magical candlelit space of New College Ante-Chapel for this thrilling programme performed by Greek soprano Aphrodite Patoulidou. Described by The LA Times as 'a class above', she is joined by pianist Keval Shah for a wide-ranging selection of music that descends from the mortal plane into the mystical and other-worldly.

IRISH FOLK MUSIC 23 October | Trinity College
Zoë Conway and John McIntyre have been described as 'one of the best folk duos on the planet' (BBC). This husband and wife duo draw the day to a close with a special hour of Irish folk music, exhibiting the range and knowledge of both musicians as well as the versatility of their instruments, and bringing to the stage sympathetic arrangements of traditional Irish music, compositions and songs old and new.
